Shifting focus?

I’ve been pondering switching the focus of this blog for awhile now. I haven’t been posting much in the food arena, mainly because I don’t seem to be as passionate about it as I once was. I’m thinking about moving to more of a general focus of my life to the posts – there will still be food posts, in …

Hickok’s – Better than Flame

I’ve got a lot of things to write about from the DC trip – 5-6 restaurants, but I realized that I hadn’t written a review of Hickok’s, the new steak house across  the street from Patton Alley Pub and Agrario (it’s also managed by Eric Zackrison who owns the Pub and Agrario) We went to Hickok’s the first weekend they …

Buzz Conference

We’re about halfway through the Buzz Conference. I’ve managed to get enough cell phone coverage to connect and post this note. The sessions yesterday were outstanding,  this morning we’ve had a bloggers breakfast – a great chance to meet people who also have blogs, the sermon branding session has been good as well. I’m looking forward to the panel this …

Washington Round Up – Day 2/3

Tuesday we went to the Zoo, National Cathedral, and wandered around the Adams Morgan neighborhood. I think zoos seem much larger when you’re a kid. Overall I was disappointed with the National  Zoo experience. I don’t think it was much better than any of the large zoos in other major cities around the country (St. Louis for example — maybe …

Washington Day 1

Originally uploaded by kerner. Our first day in DC we did a lot of the standard tourist stuff. We had a good lunch and a great dinner, but those are separate posts. Here is the quick overview of what happened on day one. Washington Monument – Saw Marine  One headed to the White House while waiting to go up. …

IMBB 25: Pain Perdu Panino

Originally uploaded by kerner. As my return to IMBB with the Give Us This Day Yesterday’s Bread theme I decided to try combining pain perdu (french toast) and the panini – two things I am very fond of  eating. I didn’t think to let any bread go stale, so I stuck pieces in a warm oven (about 225° F) for …

Leaving for DC Tomorrow

Sarah and I leave for DC tomorrow. We’re flying out of Kansas City on Midwest Airlines – I love Midwest, not only because the service is better than other airlines these days, but also because of the cookies. I’m going to the Buzz Conference at NCC. I’m very excited about it. Sarah’s taking a week of vacation, and I’ve slid …

Rock’n Ribs 2006

Rock’n Ribs, Springfield’s local bbq competition, is this weekend. Sarah is the head cook for the Rotaract team (young Rotary) and she’ll be up all night in the Bass Pro parking lot cooking ribs, pork, brisket, and chicken. We worked last night on the super-secret rub and homemade bbq sauce for the competition. I think it’s going to taste great. …

Cunetto – St. Louis, The Hill

The worship team from Schweitzer is going to a workshop at La Croix in Cape Girardeau this weekend. On the way there we visited a Saturday evening service in St. Louis then headed to Cunetto on The Hill for dinner. Above you can see the remnants of several people’s food, also known as my supervisor’s tasting platter. I ordered …

Clary’s Tasting Menu

Last night for Sarah’s birthday we went to Clary’s for dinner. The restaurant was fairly slow on a Monday night, and as such the service was almost annoyingly attentive. We decided that for the birthday dinner we would do the chef’s tasting menu that Clary’s offers with a small modification — Sarah’s not a fan of gumbo or the soup …

Smoked Pork Chops For Lunch

I’d fired up the smoker to cook for the meat/xbox fiesta Steve Kirks and I were having on Friday night (I promise a post about this too). Sarah was going home to a bridal shower for her sister. She called on her way home from work — she took half the day off — and I asked her to pick …

Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker

Okay, so Steve Kirks has had a couple of bbq experiences at my house and now has posted about the Smokey Mountain Cooker on his blog. I think it’s a ploy to make me post more, well guess what Steve, it worked. I’ve been pondering what to post about this smoker for awhile, mainly during my blog hiatus. I have …
